The Nuance Pro Gel is a nasal pillow CPAP mask from Philips Respironics. Soft gel pillows rest at the nostrils, and a clear frame with built-in gel cheek pads holds them in place. It is a low-profile option for CPAP and bi-level users who want as little mask on their face as possible.

How the mask is built

The Nuance Pro Gel has just four main parts:

• Gel pillows cushion, available in Small, Medium and Large, all included in the box
• Gel-padded frame that sits across the cheeks and spreads contact over a soft surface
• Non-slip headgear with adjustment points at the top and sides
• Short tube with swivel that connects to your standard CPAP hose and turns freely as you move

Because the pillows cushion is a separate part, you can replace it on its own when it wears out, without replacing the whole mask.

Getting a good fit

Start with the medium pillows. If air escapes around the nostrils, try the next size up. If the pillows feel tight or push into the nose, go one size down. Tighten the headgear only enough to keep the mask stable. Overtightening is a common cause of leaks with pillow masks.

Daily and weekly care

Hand wash the pillows, frame and tube every day with mild detergent, rinse thoroughly and let them air dry. Wash the headgear by hand once a week, or sooner if needed. The mask comes apart in seconds, so daily cleaning stays quick.
