Disconnect the Elbow
Begin by disconnecting the elbow from both the mask and the CPAP hose. This usually involves gently twisting or pulling the elbow off.
Rinse with Warm Water
Rinse the elbow under warm running water to remove any visible dust or residue. This helps to loosen any debris inside the elbow.
Clean in Soapy Water
The soap should be mild, non-abrasive. Submerge the elbow in the soapy water and let it soak for about 5-10 minutes.
Scrub Gently
Use a soft-bristle brush or a cloth to gently scrub the elbow. Pay special attention to any crevices or connections where dirt and germs might accumulate. For hard-to-reach areas inside the elbow, you can use a CPAP brush.
Rinse Thoroughly
After scrubbing, rinse the elbow thoroughly under running warm water. Remaining residue can cause irritations.
Air Dry
Shake off any excess water and let the elbow air dry on a clean towel or drying rack. Ensure it is completely dry before reassembling the CPAP equipment. Avoid using direct heat sources like hair dryers as they can deform the plastic.
