6 Easy Steps to Clean and Maintain your CPAP

Quick steps to follow

  • Wash your mask cushion every 2–3 days using warm water and mild dishwashing detergent.
  • Rinse thoroughly and air dry on a towel to avoid moisture-related issues.
  • Inspect mask parts for cracks or wear, and replace mask and headgear every 12 months, or earlier if needed.

CPAP Hygiene Tips

Taking care of your mask and equipment will ensure your treatment is more comfortable and effective. It will also prolong its working life.

  1. Every couple of days wash your mask cushion in warm soapy water. Use a mild dish washing detergent as opposed to liquid hand soap. A clean grease free mask forms a better seal and its less likely to leak.
  2. After washing, rinse with water and leave on a towel to dry.
  3. At least once a week, remove the air tubing and mask from the CPAP device.
  4. Wash the mask headgear and tubing in warm soapy water. Rinse with clean water and leave to dry.
  5. Remember to change the filter on the back of your device every 4-6 months.
  6. Check the filter periodically for holes or blockages caused by dirt or dust. If necessary change the filter and remember to replace the filter on the back of the device. You can obtain replacement filters over at cpap.parts

Even with proper care your mask and headgear will probably need to be replaced after about a year.
If you notice any deterioration sooner, such as cracks or tears in any part of the mask, the damaged part should be discarded and replaced.
